A Little Special Feature of the Schönburg
The Schönburg is a Garnerbenburg – a special historical title with an extraordinary meaning. Unlike many other castles, where the inheritance was traditionally passed only to the eldest son, the Schönburg was bequeathed to all the sons of the family.
This principle of the Garnerbenburg was very rare in medieval society. It meant that each son had an equal right to inherit and thus received a part of the castle and the family estate.
Today, the Schönburg is not only a place of historical interest but also a symbol of the progressiveness and foresight of that time.
